A Short History of the Booby & Blob

The Booby fly originated in the UK in the late 1980s, created by Robbie Winram. Its foam “booby” eyes were designed to give the fly lift and make it hover just above weed beds when fished on a sinking line — a game-changing concept at the time.

The Blob arrived later in the 1990s, gaining popularity on UK competition circuits for its bold, bushy profile and incredible ability to provoke reaction strikes from stocked trout. It was originally tied with the now-famous Fritz material, which gave it unmatched colour and movement.

As stillwater anglers experimented, the two designs were combined, giving birth to the Booby Blob — a high-visibility, buoyant attractor pattern that is now a staple in competition fly boxes worldwide. Today, it remains one of the most reliable patterns for stocked lakes and cold-water trout, and continues to evolve with new colours and materials.

The Pink Booby Blob is a highly effective stillwater attractor fly designed to draw quick, aggressive takes from trout. Its bright pink profile and buoyant booby eyes make it ideal for fishing over weed beds or when trout are sitting deeper and need something bold to trigger a reaction.
